About the Ceará region
Only a six hours flight from Europe you find Cerará, one of the most beautiful places in Brazil with their lakes, historical cities, cliffs and beaches. The average water temperature is 26 degrees. The capital, Fortaleza is the 4th largest city in Brazil. The people of this land are gifted and hospitable.

Fortaleza is an authentic tropical paradise which wishes thousands of visitors welcome each year. All are fascinated by the wide and white beaches, the sea that spreads out – green and warm, the lovely bays with coconut palms, sand dunes and by the arts and crafts and local customs and traditions.

Beach enthusiasts are spoiled by the great choice of excursions along the 90km long coast consisting of mostly sand beaches in the Fortaleza region. The perfect combination of joy: drive through the sand dunes in a “buggy”, bathe in the clear water, drink coconut milk or sunbathe early in the morning watching the fish vessels go out, or in the afternoon see the silhouettes approach land as the sun disappears in to the sea.

There is a rich selection of tropical fruits in the region: cashew nuts, pawpaw, mango guava, passion fruit and caja – all are used in the production of delicious juices and ice cream.

Fortaleza
Fortaleza is one of the most modern capitals in the Northeast with a mix of more than two centuries of history, which you can see around the city in between the modern shopping centers and buildings. The old houses from the Portuguese colonial time are still preserved in its glory with soft shades of green, blue, pink and butterfly yellow. Several of these have small green oasis that are ideal for talking or for resting in the mild breeze in moonlight.

When the sun is high the shadows become more dramatic, and the city gives a sensation of calm silence, however do not be fooled. There is a lot going on in Fortaleza – from film festivals, theatre, jazz, blues and a vibrant nightlife. The city offers bars, nightclubs and restaurants to suit any taste, - and are open the whole week.

Everywhere there are stalls that offer cold drinks and seafood. In the crafts market you can buy a grand variety of local arts and crafts and food. Among the city beaches in Fortaleza – the Futuro beach is the one who attract the most people.

The sunset seen from Ponte dos Ingleses, also known as Ponte Metalica (the metal bridge) at the Iracemast beach is a “must see” for all visitors.

The Cearás Tourist center (Centro de Turismo do Ceará) have 104 stores that offer all kinds of merchandise you can imagine – this also true for the Central Market (Mercado Central) in the midst of the city with its 300 stores. The centers are open 7 days a week with good opportunities for both parking and dining. Another good opportunity is to visit the Cearás art centre (Centro Artesanato do Ceará – CEART) where you will find artists from the whole state who work in the centre and produce authentic art.

An important place for cultural programs includes the Seadragon centre for Art and Culture (Centro do Dragao do Mar de Arte e Cultura) the museum for the culture fo Cearás, the museum of modern art and Rubens de Azevedo Planetarium – as well as cinemas and theatres.

Fortaleza has one of the most famous off-season carnivals in the whole country, Fortal, in the month of July.

The city also hosts one of the most important music festivals in Brazil – Cerará Music.

Cumbuco
Cumbuco is a small brazilian beach village with 2000 people living the whole year. There is a relaxing atmosphere. In the center there are restaurants, bars, small shops, supermarket, drugstore and a medical senter. The beaches are endless and it also have spectacular sand dunes.Coconut palms everywhere Its a paradise for watersport especially kite and wind surfers. From Cumbuco and furter north it is allowed to drive on the beach and you will find miles and miles with empty sand beaches.There are also a beautiful lake with beach and restaurant only 1 km away from the center Cumbuco is situated 30 km north of Fortaleza and 40 minutes driving from the airport.

About Porto das Dunas
Porto das Dunas is a small village south of Fortaleza. It is built around Beach Park one of the first and biggest water parks in Brazil build frontline on the beach. The park has restaurants, convention center, spa and hotel. It is live music on the beach every Saturday afternoon. Over 700 000 people visit this fantastic place every year. As one of the most famous things about Brazil you can drive with a beach buggy from Porto das Dunas and south directly on the beach. You will reach small fishing villages where you can eat fresh seafood in quit surroundings. Only 5 kilometers south of Porto das Dunas you will soon find a new 18 holes golf course. Lago Catu is a freshwater lake only 1 km from the centre of Porto das Dunas and is the location for Catu Residence. The lake has been very popular for water sports like kiting and jetski. Porto das Dunas is located 16km south of Fortaleza, with the new bridge open it will be a 20 minutes drive. The bridge is planned finish in end of 2009. The international airport in Fortaleza is a 40 minutes drive.

Climate:
Fortaleza has a typical tropical climate with high temperatures all year around. The average temperature in and around Fortaleza is about 27 °C (81 °F) but the pleasant winds blowing from the ocean makes the heat feeling good for both body and mind. The so-called winter season (February to May) has also got nice temperatures but is referred to as “winter” due to the higher possibility of rain. The average annual rainfall in Fortaleza is about 1,378.3 millimeters (54.26 in) with a average humidity of 77%.

Ceará is one of the smallest states in Brazil but it is one of the places with the longest coastline. With about 25 km of urban beaches Fortaleza can offer what you want in a beach. The beautiful white dream or the wild and unexplored?
